I am just getting started with HAL and am trying to figure out which switches would be the best. I've ordered some leviton switches based on dimming and simple off/on. Then as I've snooped around I've read about 2-way switches, DHC, ASG(or AGS), and I know there are different vendors. I was wondering if there is a primer or chart somewhere that might help me, or if someone would be so kind as to recommend products that have worked well with HAL. :?: Thank you.

No chart or guide that I'm aware of to the different switches. Leviton makes good stuff, both the older stuff and the newer 2 way stuff.

I've also heard good things about Lightolier , PCS, and Smarthome.

Check the Smarthome site. I seem to remember some comparison charts on their site.

The Leviton stuff is pretty good, but IMHO, the best in that class now is the Switchlinc line, also sold by Smarthome. I have a bunch of them and the main complaint I have is that they are a little noisier in the AM radios than some others, but all dimmers generate RF hash.

I no longer install or recommend dimmers in any form anywhere that AM radio reception is at all desired, i.e. most homes.

If I were doing a new X10 installation today, I would go with 100% switchlinc.

Cheers,
Nathan

Thank you so much for the feedback. I hope to be able to be a contributor to the boards as I gain some experience.

Yes, there are a lot of nice switches. It really depends on the features you want and your budget. We carry a lot of them. Someone mentioned Smarthome switches. I really like them. We do have the lowest prices available on them and in addition, there is a coupon code \"smarthome\" that is good through the 24th that will give you an additional 10% too.

Hi Martin,
I haven't been to your site in a while. It looks really good! Nice product selection. About 3 years ago I filled my home with 1-way x-10 brand modules, figuring as they go bad I'd replace them 1 by 1, with the more expensive, better stuff. Darn things just won't fail. If they ever do, I'm sure I'll be visiting. Happy HAL-i-days to you.
