I am looking for the best deal on a starter x10 set that will give me the units and a bridge for the power. The control does not interest me.

Has anyone seen a good starter deal at a good price.?

I got an email this morning from Smarthome.com stating they are running a special. You can get an applianceLinc (bridge/signal repeater) free if you spend $200 at their site. I use this device and find it to be awesome. I didn't even have to open the breaker box to install it! A true plug & play X10 solution. I guess you need to be specific regarding the other hardware you're looking for (light switches, appliance modules, computer interfaces, Etc.)as well as the budget you're working with. If your on the cheap plan, x10.com has a great deal on a package of various 1-way modules. Many people prefer the more expensive 2-way modules as locally controling a device will send HAL information on the status change. When I first started out I did our whole house with the cheap stuff from X-10 and have gradually been replacing selected modules. For example I replaced the appliance module that turns on the audio in our bedroom with a Smarthome ApplianceLinc module which doesn't activate with a loud click. I prefer to awaken by HAL's voice, not the sound of an appliance module relay.

Good info. What I am looking for is an asortment of controlers. So the 200 deal that gives me the bridge is great. Since I have hal I wont need a controler so I will check out that site.

thanks
