I would rather run cat 5 to each outlets and not use x10 everywhere. Is there such an animal.?
Anyone else looked at these options.?
(and Yes I searched before posting)

Hi,
for many input and output functions, it's possible to use the ADI Ocelot plus their SECU16 series I/O modules.
These operate from 9 - 12V AC or DC (so can be run off a 12V lead acid battery as a UPS).
The Ocelot interfaces with HAL2000 via a serial port and all ins & outs can be seen / controlled by HAL. It also gives Infra-Red facilities with learning capability, so it can control just about anything.
The SECU modules operate via a twisted pair data bus (i.e. one pair of a CAT5) and can be spread over 100s of metres.
It (the Ocelot)is programmable in it's own right, so can act as a fallback in case of a PC crash to maintain operation. It's also much more suited to critical stuff (i.e. garage doors) as X-10 is not involved.
It does support an X-10 interface directly for input & device control, or can be used as HALs X-10 device.
The inputs will accept a floating contact from a switch, door contact, PIR etc., or an analog voltage. They have anti-tamper capabilities.
The outputs are small relay contacts which can be used directly for low current apps., or to control a power relay for large loads. (There is also an eight-way module with power relay outputs).
Personally, if installing the required cables is not a problem, the only place I think X-10 is better suited is for light switches. The best two-way ones are very well designed & trying to get a conventional off-the-shelf switch (that would connect to a contact input) to duplicate their operation seems impossible...

For a wired solution, I would really look at the Lightolier Multi-Set. If works the same way as the Compose but it is wired. We only have the Compose on our website right now but we do have the Multi-Set also available.

Just to point out HAL does not directly support Lightolier Multi-Set hardwired lighting.
Another option if you have HAL2000 and the Omni is they have hardwired lighting called ALC (I believe). While HAL does not offically support this lighting I've been told by users that HAL will turn on and off these lights. Unfortunately no dimming.
