I have not run into this before. I just added about 30 MP3's to my MP3 folder and did a scan in the HAL DMC to pick up the new files. The scan seems to run normally but I end up with a few songs with correct artist and song name, then about 95% of them have "unknown" listed for artist and song name. The folder holds about 48GB of MP3's, organized by artist subfolders. It has worked perfectly for years so I can imagine why adding a few MP3s (in their own folder) seems to have confused the DMC or corrupted the database. Any ideas?

You may need to email an example MP3 to HAL tech support. They need to update HAL to recognize the way TAGS are stored. I have seen this problem lately myself.

Thanks, Jim. I suppose that could have something to do with it and I can provide them a sample file. But in my case, files that showed up fine before I added the 30 new files (correct artist/title/etc.) are now showing "unknown". Maybe something in the new files corrupted something.... If I new what db files to delete I suppose I could wipe it out and start all over and see if it correctly identifies the files. Thanks again for the reply.

Support... can you tell me what files to rename or delete so that the complete mp3 library is gone? I want to remove everything and rescan and see if all of the files labeled with 'unknown' return to the correct artist and title. They were fine before I added 30 songs then about 5000 songs that were previously correct got screwed up artist/title info.

Kevin,
You can delete everything in the Playlist folder. Do you use any other MP3 players on this computer beside HALdmc? Thanks, Tim

Tim, I deleted everything and rescanned the MP3 folder. This time about 95% of the files show the correct MP3 tag info like before. The other 5% show 'unknown' and that is probably from bad tag info in the files. So I think I am ok now.
Jet Audio is installed in the same computer but doesn't get used, and Windows Media Player 11 is also on the computer... used to stream MP3's to other devices on the network. Thanks for the help. |
