Hi, I just downloaded Hal2000 to try it. I find it has a very hard time understanding me. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to improve this?

Try using Window's voice recorder to record some speech. Then play it back. See if that sounds clear to you. If it doesn't, then chances are that HAL will have trouble understanding it too.
Another thing to try is to use the setup wizzard to adjust your microphone/volume settings. There's a point in the wizzard where you're asked to record something and then play it back (similar to the above suggestion). -Brian |

microphone quality plays a huge role. You may wwant to try a different micrphone. Also turn the mic input DOWN, and see if this helps.

Echos or reverberation are also a real killer for the speech recogntion system.
Make sure the mike is either well away from any hard surfaces or actually against a wall. A hard surface some inches away is the worst setup.
