I get the message "The page cannot be displayed" when I try to access the HomeNet.

Cause
HAL is not running (no ear or phone icons in the system tray).

Solution
HAL must be running in order to control HAL using the HomeNet screens. Start HAL.


Cause
HAL's Internet feature is not enabled or running. The Internet feature must be enabled and running in order to control HAL through the HomeNet screens.

Solution
Go to the Internet Settings screen to enable HAL's Internet feature. Only the main Internet Enabled option must be enabled; all other Internet features -- such as sports, weather, E-mail, etc. -- do not have to be enabled if you do not wish to use those feature. To see if the Internet feature is currently running, right-click on the ear icon and select VIEW INTERNET INFORMATION. If the Internet feature is not running then an alert message will appear (if it is running then the Internet screen will appear). To start the Internet feature, restart HAL or go to Start... Programs... HAL... HAL Internet Server (the Internet screen will appear).


Cause
If you try to access the HomeNet using the computer name and the computer name has invalid characters (such as spaces) then this error message may appear. For instance, "mycomputer" is an acceptable name, but "my computer" is not.

Solution
Rename the computer so that it doesn't include spaces or other invalid characters. To change the name assigned to your computer, right-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and select PROPERTIES. (See Windows® help for more assistance with renaming your computer.)


Cause
There is a problem with the home network or the HAL computer. If the home network is not functioning properly or if there is a problem with the HAL computer or its connection to the home network, then you may not be able to access HAL via the HomeNet.

Solution
Check the home network and/or HAL computer for problems. Depending on how your system is set up, you may also not be able to connect to the Internet or download E-mail if there is a problem with the home network. If you are able to connect to the Internet from some computers on the home network, or can access one computer from another, then the problem is most likely the computer on which HAL is installed and/or the network connection to that computer.
