Install the HAL software program(s).

Start HAL.  If you installed HALbasic, HALdeluxe, or HAL2000, then the HAL Setup Wizard will appear on startup.  After completing the HAL Setup Wizard, the HAL Registration screen will appear.  If you installed HALdmc or HALvoices, the HAL Registration screen will appear immediately.  (Click here for a screenshot of the HAL Registration screen for HAL2000.  The Registration screen has a similar appearance for the other HAL programs.)

The Serial Number and Computer Number fields will already have numbers in the fields.  These numbers are set automatically and cannot be altered.  Go to the HAL Online Registration program (another browser window will appear so that you can read these instructions as you register the software).

IMPORTANT: The number in the Serial Number field changes every time HAL starts.  For this reason, you must have the HAL Registration screen visible when you register the software.  If you click LATER or EXIT before the software is registered, you will need to bring up this screen again by shutting down HAL and restarting it.

New users:  Click the "First time users, click here" link.  (A new user is someone who has never registered HAL software online and has never made a purchase through the HAL Online Store.)  

Returning users:  Type the username and password you selected at that time into the appropriate field in this screen and click LOGIN.

New users:  Please fill in your personal information, including E-mail address, and specify a username and password.  You will use this same username and password any time you register a HAL program or want to modify your information.  After filling in this information, proceed to step 6 (do not click SUBMIT yet). 

Returning users:  This screen will show the information that you entered on a previous visit.  Click the REGISTER A PRODUCT link.  

There are four fields that must be filled in to register a HAL software program:

Product - Select from the drop-down field the HAL software program you are registering.  It is very important that you select the correct product from this list.  Note that there are two options for HALbasic, HALdeluxe, and HAL2000 -- make sure you select the appropriate option.  (Click here for more information.)
Product Key - Type in this field the product key for the software that you are registering.  The product key is located on the CD envelope or jewel case or it was E-mailed to you, depending on how you purchased the software or upgrade.  Each HAL software program you install will have its own product key.  Users who upgraded to Version 3.x will receive a new product key for whichever program was upgraded.  NOTE: This field is case-insensitive -- it doesn't matter if the product key is typed in all caps or all lowercase letters.
Serial Number - Type in this field the Serial Number that appears in the HAL Registration screen.  This will generally be a nine-digit number.
Computer Number - Type in this field the Computer Number that appears in the HAL Registration screen.  This will generally be a six- or seven-digit number.

Fill in the four fields then click ADD (if returning user) or SUBMIT (if new user).  The Online Registration program will return an Authorization Number (generally seven digits long).  Back on the HAL Registration screen, type this number into the Registration Number field.  (Click here if you receive an error message from the Online Registraton program.)

Click the REGISTER button in the HAL Registration screen.  The HAL Registration screen for this software will disappear.  If you installed multiple HAL programs, the HAL Registration screen will appear again but will indicate the next software program to be registered (the name of the software appears in the title line at the top of the Registration screen).  Follow steps 6 to 9 to register additional HAL software programs.

When the last HAL software program has been registered, the HAL Registration screen will disappear and HAL will start.
