Yes. HAL can respond to the attention word (if used) and to specific commands.

Example:

You say:	"In 10 minutes, turn on the front porch light for two hours."
HAL says:	"In 10 minutes, turn on the front porch light for two hours?"
You say:	"Yes." or "No."
HAL says:	"Ok." or "Cancelled."

HAL can be programmed either to ask for confirmation before carrying out a command (as shown above) or to carry out the command immediately.
