I upgraded HAL2000 to the new 1.3.23 version and now I'm getting an "Error Loading ASR DLL" when I try to start HAL.

Error message when starting HAL: Error loading ASR DLL C:\Program Files\Common Files\L&H Shared\PCMM ASR1600 V3\ASR3234.DLL.

To correct this problem, you must modify the Windows registry and then do a custom install of HAL. If you are at all unsure about following the steps below, then contact HAL Technical Support at 888-255-7700 or 301-498-7000 for assistance.

Modify the Windows Registry:

1. Click on START in the Windows system tray, then click RUN.
   
   
2. Type regedit then click OK or press ENTER.
   
   
3. The Windows Registry Editor will appear. Look for the folder called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Click the plus (+) to the left of the folder to expand it.
   
   
4. Click the plus (+) sign next to the folder called SOFTWARE.
   
   
5. Click the plus (+) sign next to the folder called HOME AUTOMATED LIVING.
   
   
6. You will see a folder called HAL and another one called HAL2000.

   NOTE: If you do not see both folders, DO NOT CONTINUE. Call HAL Technical Support for assistance.
   
   

7. Right-click on the folder called HAL and select DELETE. If a confirmation message appears, click OK.
   
   
8. Right-click on the folder called HAL2000 and select RENAME. The folder name will be highlighted and a cursor will be blinking at the end of the name. Rename the file to HAL and hit ENTER. The folder should now appear with the name "HAL".
   
   
9. Close the Windows Registry Editor.
   
   

1. Double-click on the HAL2000.exe file that you previously used to install the new version.
   
   
2. The Install Wizard will appear. Click NEXT until you get to the screen where it asks if you want to do an "Automatic" or a "Custom" install. Select the "Custom" option then click NEXT.
   
   
3. The next screen asks you to select the components that you want to install. Deselect (no checkmark) everything but HAL Program Files, Speech Recognition Software, and Text to Speech Software. Click NEXT.
   
   
4. Continue through the rest of the Install Wizard to start the custom installation. When the installation process finishes, you should be able to start HAL without any errors. If you do encounter an error, contact HAL Technical Support at 888-255-7700 or 301-498-7000 during normal technical support hours.
