Get Your HAL!
If you have HAL's Internet download features enabled, in particular TV Listings, then it is normal to see HAL pop up an Internet Maintenance screen at times. The Maintenance message means that HAL is removing old TV Listings information. This keeps the TV Listing files from getting too large. The maintenance may take a few minutes depending on the type of TV Listings you are downloading.
Normally the Internet maintenance occurs around 3:00am when there's generally little computer activity. This screen will appear when HAL is starting up if HAL was not running at the time the normally-scheduled maintenance was to occur.
If the Maintenance screen stays on the screen for longer than a few minutes, or if it doesn't disappear at all, then there may be a problem. Follow the steps below to correct this problem.
Alternatively, if you don't use TV Listings in HAL then you may want to just disable HAL's ability to download this information. Follow the steps below to disable HAL's TV Listings download feature.
NOTE: Disabling this feature means that you can't ask HAL to read TV Listings and you can't ask it to record a program based on TV Listings (HAL2000 only).
